CineMy 2.0

Projects5 min read

CineMy, our movie showtimes app, is redesigned for the iPhone in the new flat look of iOS 7, with Go Now!, ratings and favourite cinemas.

CineMy 2.0 is out on the iPhone. CineMy is our own app for movie showtimes, every cinema in one place instead of going through GSC, TGV and MBO one by one. It’s us scratching our own itch.

The new icon.

The first CineMy came out in 2012. This one is a whole redesign, mostly because I wanted it. iOS 7 came with a new design language, the whole UI is flat now, and CineMy was my excuse to design in it. It was also a way for us to look into scraping work, and the showtimes and the Rotten Tomatoes scores in it are all scraped.

Movies

It opens on what’s showing, each film with its poster and a play button for the trailer, and a little clock on the ones starting soon. A movie has its Rotten Tomatoes score next to CineMy’s own thumbs up and thumbs down, so you can rate what you’ve watched. It also has the showtimes near you, day by day.

The Movies screen: Grace of Monaco, Need for Speed, Pompeii and Anchorman 2 as wide poster rows, each with a play button, and a clock badge on Anchorman 2The Divergent page: the poster over a still, a 38% Rotten Tomatoes score, thumbs up and down with counts, Details and Showtimes tabs, the synopsis and trailersThe Divergent details: rating, language, genre, run time, director and cast, with View on IMDb and View on WikipediaDivergent showtimes near Petaling Jaya: today and the next three days, with times at TGV Sunway Pyramid and GSC Midvalley

Cinemas

Cinemas are sorted by how near they are, with each chain’s logo … TGV, GSC, MBO, Cathay, Lotus Five Star and the rest. A cinema has a map, directions, a button to call it, and its showtimes for the next few days. If there’s one you keep going to, heart it and it goes into your favourites.

Go Now!

Go Now! is for when you’ve got an hour or so to kill. It shows the movies starting within the hour near you, sorted by distance or by time, and sends you to the cinema with a Google Maps link. There’s also the box office chart, for the US or Malaysia, and everything sits in a side menu.

You join with Facebook, which is what lets you rate movies. I also designed a way to make a Facebook event for a showing and invite your friends to it.

In the App Store

There’s a site for it at cine.my, and it’s free on the App Store.
