DiGi StreamCast, live TV and radio in five languages
DiGi invited us to pitch StreamCast, an Android app for live TV and radio from home, for the migrant workers who make up a big part of DiGi's subscribers.
DiGi invited us to pitch for StreamCast, an Android app for live TV and radio. A lot of DiGi’s subscribers are migrant workers, so StreamCast is for them, with TV and radio from home in their own language. I think it’s a novel idea, and it makes sense for DiGi to cater to them.
Five languages
The app opens by asking for your language, Bengali, Bahasa Indonesia, Burmese, Nepali or Tagalog, and the welcome cycles through all five. Bengali, Burmese and Nepali don’t use the Latin alphabet, so I used Google’s Noto fonts to show them properly.
TV and radio
Everything after that is in your language. The screens here are in Bahasa Indonesia, with Indonesian channels, and the first thing you see is a note that the service is free. TV and radio each have a tab, and you can switch languages from the top at any time. Radio can be a list or a grid of station logos.
Each channel has a schedule two days ahead. Tap a show and it offers to put a reminder in your calendar.
For DiGi subscribers
StreamCast is for DiGi subscribers only. It checks when you open it, and if you’re not on DiGi, it tells you to get a DiGi Prepaid pack from any DiGi outlet. DiGi’s promos come in as notifications, and a full-screen ad shows before a stream starts.
